Transatlantic Flight of Navy Curtis Flying Boats

On May 8, 1919 three Navy Curtis Flying Boats, NC-1, NC-3 and NC-4 departed from Jamaica Bay, NY to attempt to make the first transatlantic crossing by plane. On May 27, 1919, NC-4 arrives at Lisbon, completing the first American transatlantic flight.  NC-1 lands at sea and sinks 3 days later. Its crew is picked up by a Greek freighter. NC-3 was badly damaged after landing off Horta.
